“What happened to the night?” Johnny asked.
We have been enjoying the night lately. Because our normal has changed, we have been looking for new ideas to keep us entertained. We have discovered that we have a nightly nature show right outside our backdoor. Tonight after we finished our nightly wildlife session, we weren’t quite ready to go inside so we decided to take a walk in the dark. “What happened to the night?”, Johnny asked. It’s true, the night had disappeared. There were outside lights everywhere; lights that come on at dusk, some coming on automatically, some on timers. It was as bright as a runway. The night had actually disappeared. Gone was the night!
I wish you kids could experience the night on the farm back in the 60s. When my dad turned out the lights, it was dark! All one could see were the twinkling stars above. It was magical, not scary. It was a time when I felt at peace. I felt safe. There wasn’t a need to have a light that came on automatically at dusk; we had daddy. The night was night!
I love you. Turn out the lights.
Yes, we did have an outside light but it was a flood light that was turned on only when we needed to go outside. Imagine five children playing under that light in the summertime. Imagine turning on that light to get a glimpse of the glittering snowflakes of the winter. But when we turned out the light it was night. It was peace. We were safe. Night was night.

It's Hard to Let Go
A lot of events this week have led me think about letting go; whether it is the loss of a loved one, a pet, children going out on their own, or simple bouquets.
Last week I bought a bouquet of flowers and also was given a bouquet from some new found friends. This week............well, they just aren't fresh looking and some of the individual flowers had to be culled from the overall bouquets. Needless to say, tomorrow, additional flowers will be removed. Nonetheless, it is hard for me to "let go".
So here are some pictures of the remaining flowers............and just like my grandma Dawkins would have done, some flower heads had to be preserved just a tad longer. So in memory of my grandma, the flowers float gently in their own frames. It's hard to let go.
I love you.

Just Throw It Out
Just throw it out.
That is exactly what he did this afternoon. Just threw it out. What need do we have of old 3 inch, or was it 4, discs? For some reason we had a ton of them. Not only did he throw them out, he also threw away the cute little file boxes that were specifically designed for them. AND he threw away the DVD and CD plastic cases.............AND the transparency film (heaven only knows why we even had that...........probably a work related project). And he found a ream of 8 X 14 inch paper.........why do we need to save that? It will make great paper for the boys' drawings. Yes, we will pass that right on off to their mom for safe keeping out of my house!
Just going through the "computer room" just brought to mind how much technology has evolved since 1998 when we started accumulating such items. Even CDs and DVDs are fast becoming obsolete despite me still hanging on to my old 8-track player. Not going to ever come back. Nope, not going to come back.
BUT will all 1200 vinyl albums come back..............in the house I mean? Right now they have been moved to the building until after the carpet installation. Yes, I suspect they will. {sigh}
It's good to get new carpet. Just throw it out.

Things Change
We went to one of my old favorite Mexican restaurants tonight and it was terrible. We can now cross it off the list. Nothing stays the same anymore. When we were dating there were 3 or 4 favs, Glen's Hickory Inn, Tony's Via Roma, and the Captain's Table. Now they are gone, but certainly not forgotten. Oh, to eat another Glen's steaks.
I am learning to enjoy each day even though it might not be what I want it to be. We both have pretty good health so that is a blessing. Tonight we walked 2.4 miles and it was so refreshing. The air is cool and the walk is something of a nature walk since we live in a neighborhood of 5 acre lots.
Hopefully, I will post pictures of daily life. I love to cook so maybe I will be able to show you some of my favorite recipes.
